In memory of Miles

It is Friday and Fridays are for fun.  It is a sad day but I can still have fun.   Miles died suddenly and unexpectedly a couple of days ago after four years of faithful service.  Miles Is what I named my GPS.  I name most anything that I spend time with including the thanksgiving turkey but that is probably too much information for most. Miles2

Miles may look like a hunk of metal and plastic but he was special and was always there for me paitiently telling me where to go and how to get there.  I can still hear his voice telling me to take a complete U turn when it is safe to do so and the gentle "you have arrived" when I was within a block of my destination, or a little past it.  He always knew the way home no matter where we were and never complained about my driving and he never lied to me.

Even though I sometimes called him names and maybe used some unlady like words, he was always kind and patient and did his job without even raising his voice even if it meant saying "please make a complete u turn when it is safe to do so" several times before I got it right.

Miles never gave up on me. I wish I knew what he died of and I hope he didn't suffer.  I know I have to replace him but it will be hard to do especially considering that I don't have much of a chance of finding an electronics store or anyting else without a GPS.

  1. He was so faithful and he didn’t even yell at you. Betty handles my GPS and she is nasty. Miles gave you many good years of service. RIP Miles.

  2. If you have an iPhone the Navigation System is wonderful!

  3. Okay, that was just too cute! Sorry for your loss. 😉 I have a TomTom for iPhone mounting device if you need one (I bought a new car that has a built-in navigation system so I don’t need it anymore). Alternatively I have Garmin Nuvi that I’m not using anymore either, although you’d have to update the maps. Email me at jolenta at lakeandcityhomes dot com if you’re interested. As you can probably tell by now, I go through GPS devices like Kleenex, so I really don’t have them long enough to get so attached that I feel the need to name them. 😉 I also feel that the ones with the American accents can be quite curt, if not downright nasty, at times and so to mitigate against that tendency it is wise, if not a real necessity, to change the speaking voice to a British or Australian accent. It sure is easier on the ears that way! Thanks for the perfectly charming post, Teresa. 🙂 *smiles*
