What is wrong with the picture?

If is hard for most people to look at their homes through the eyes of a buyer.  We live in them and see them every day and sometimes do not see what is right in front of us. When I meet with a seller in their home I can look at it objectively. Many of my recommendations are low cost or no cost. I usually start in the kitchen by asking the sellers to remove anything they have on top of the fridge or on it.

If you want to look at your own home through a buyers eyes take photographs of the rooms and look at them. It is amazing how many things we notice in a photograph but miss when we walk through a room. Figure out what is wrong with the picture, correct it and take another shot.  If I look at your home I will still see things that you did not notice but the photographs will help with the obvious.

  1. There is no cat in the picture.
My guess with this one is the bottle dead center. Is that soap or a water bottle?

This one isn’t bad. Just the stuff on the counter. So easy to move

I agree about the stuff on the counter being an issue, but there’s also the fact that everything is the same color. I’d at least add some flowers or drapes, maybe put something decorative and colorful in that glass-front cabinet.

I saw a great MLS listing for a townhouse in Woodbury – all the rooms appeared to be round. There was one where a dresser mirror curved.

this one really could use a little staging. dishes anything

  4. Some flowers and maybe a center piece on the island would do wonders. Also, the kitchen is often a woman’s favorite part of the house so it needs to be vibrant and alive. Yellow and reds would really work. Curtains would take away from the unattractive view outside the window and decorative cannisters would hide the electric diodes coming out of the wall just above the counter. Greenery on the top of the counters and nice glassware in the clear cabinets would work as well.
