Tradition never gets old

It is Friday and Fridays are for fun. My memories of the Saint Paul Winter Carnival go way back to my childhood. It just never gets old. See the grand day parade on Saturday (1/29/2022) starting at 2:00 PM on west 7th street and ending in Rice Park in downtown St. Paul.  The landmark Center makes a great backdrop of a parade as do the many antique buildings along West 7th street.

The Hi-Lex Gnomes like the winter carnival are a St. Paul tradition and have been part of the parades since 1938. I don’t think Hi-Lex is made anymore but it was a lot like Clorox. My mom always referred to any kind of bleach as Hi-Lex.

Even when temperatures are well below zero the parade is well attended.  Temperatures should be in the 20’s above zero at parade time. There are lots of places to go inside, warm up and drink beer along the route.
