People love to talk about real estate especially if it is in their neighborhood. Neighbors will tell me “don’tcha know the Johnsons house sold for $250K” When I go look it up I find out that it was listed for $250K but that is actually sold for $230K. Of course my neighbors think that I remember what each home in the city sold for. I can look them up so quickly that I can kind of fake it if I need too.
If you ever want to look up a home and see how much it sold for you can if it was sold in the last two years. Check out “sold Home prices and pictures” Just choose “sold” as the status. You can search for a particular home or search for several that meet a specific criteria. This is the type of information that appraisers and real estate agents use to determine property values. We try to find three homes that are like the subject property and in the immediate area that were sold in the last six months or year. We sue those numbers to determine what a similar home will likely sell for.

I should add to this that tax records often show what homes sold for but the information really isn’t very useful if the home was sold more than two years ago.
