Fine dining

It is Friday and Fridays are for fun or maybe just for not writing about real estate.

Have you been out to eat lately?  Have you ever noticed that restaurant staff and servers have their own language?

Maybe it is just the way they string the words together into sentences:

1.   Are you still working on that? – No I am not working on it. I did not come here to work I came to eat.  Good food is not work to eat.  If people have to work to eat what you serve you need to consider hiring a new cook.  Asking the question makes eating seem like work and being in the restaurant becomes a chore.

2.  How is your food tasting? – Seriously?  My food can not taste so don’t ask me again. If you really believe my food can taste and is tasting then ask it how it is tasting not me.

If you dine out this weekend listen for it.  If your food tastes I want to know about it and if you find food that is work to eat please warn the rest of us.

  1. Teresa, I’ve always wondered who thought of that phrase about still working on your food and why many restaurants think it’s a good way of asking if you’ve finished. And btw, it would also be nice if they didn’t clear until all the diners were finished “working”.
