Who can you trust?

I recently wrote about the pitfalls of sharing too much on Facebook or other social type web sites if you are in the process of buying or selling a home.  (See Buyers and Sellers on Facebook)  Maybe you are a buyer and you tell your Facebook friends that you want a particular home very badly.  Word gets back to the sellers and they go ahead and counter your counter offer because they figure you will pay more.

The same holds true off the internet.  It isn’t a good idea for sellers to tell the neighbors too much because . . and trust me when I say this . . the neighbors will tell the buyers or prospective buyers.  I can see you rolling your eyes but this happens.  A buyer says something to a friend who happens to have a friend who lives two doors down from the seller . . . wow you can not imagine the things I have witnessed over the years . . the gossip and and drama . .

Who can you trust?  Your Realtor and maybe your mom but I would be careful about sharing too much with mom . . . .

  1. I would even go as far as to say that even ‘mom’ is off-limits when it comes to some of the motivation behind a sale. It can be very innocent and even naive, but people talk. Interesting post, Teresa.
