The storage problem

downtown

The snow along the streets downtown is car high.  Bus benches and parking meters are buried.  Some of the local roads are much narrower because of the snow banks.  The schools have been closed because many of the children are not yet tall enough and could easily get lost in the snow banks.

We continue to remove snow from the roads and walkways but there isn’t any place to put it.  Volunteers and employees will be removing snow from the TCF Bank stadium so that the Vikings can play  but there isn’t any place to put the snow. There is more snow on the way and it is time to get creative.  There has to be someplace to put the snow.

Note: I have looked at the weather map and am well aware of the fact that it is warmer in other parts of the country.

  1. Transportation costs seem like the limiting factor. Plenty of places to put it, just ridiculously expensive to move it.

I’m guessing most businesses lost 20-30% of parking spaces with large piles of snow.

Could it be moved to the river? It’s going to end up there anyway.

You are right. It is more about the cost of moving it and it will end up in the river. I don’t think it would be a good idea to dump it right in because of all the salt in it. Maybe there is some way to melt it.

  2. Dang… I can’t believe how much snow that is!

  3. Maybe we should give Sarah Palin a call. They must have worse problems in Alaska figuring out where to put the snow then we do in Minneapolis. She’d love the press attention!
