Spam – Made in Minnesota
I don’t write about blogging very often. This blog is about eight years old. Over the years people have left comments with links to web sites that no longer exist. Some businesses actively put links to their web sites all over the place because they believe that links from web sites like mine help them.
I get emails for companies asking me to remove links from my site that their employees left years ago. I honor their requests almost immediately but send a note telling them what I think of the practice of putting spam comments and links on web sites.
I have spent hours and hours removing old comments on this site that lead to broken links from businesses that are no longer in business. I am not at all surprised that they are no longer in business.
If you want a link to your business web site from this blog don’t bother asking or making a comment with a link. Chances are your comment will never see the light of day. There are many ways to use web sites for marketing and lead generation but leaving links on my site is not one of them.
