Retiring in Minnesota and taxes

Snow storm
April fool’s day storm

Om Friday and Saturday mother nature dumped 8.8 inches of snow on St. Paul. I spent several hours on Saturday clearing snow.

It was a reminder to me of why some folks move to Florida, Arizona, or New Mexico when they retire.

Minnesota is one of 13 states that taxes social security benefits and is always listed as an expensive and undesirable place to retire. We can not change the weather but could eliminate the state tax on social security benefits.

There are still plenty of opportunities to tax seniors with property taxes and sales taxes.
