NNO – formerly National Night Out

NNO doesn’t sound as important as national night out but we can’t have the folks at the city saying or writing three whole words.  Lets just hope that people realize what an NNO is.

Tonight is national night out. The idea is to go outside and to meet your neighbors and talk to them.  Knowing your neighbors and what is going on in the neighborhood is a vital first step in crime prevention and safety.  Crime is everywhere even here in the saintly city.

If there is an event in your neighborhood you should go and events range from three neighbors in the street talking to, large gatherings in the middle of a blocked off street that involve food, music, dancing and visits from the St. Paul Police and Fire departments and everything in between.

If you are house hunting tonight is the perfect time to go out into your favorite neighborhood and talk to the neighbors and even ask some questions.  If there is no national night out even in that neighborhood that answers some questions too.

If my home were on the market . . which it isn’t because I don’t want to clean it . . I would be hanging out this evening and talking to my neighbors and giving them information about my house.   I would avoid mentioning what my bottom line is or that I am desperate to sell or anything else that could be repeated and held against me later on but that is just because I have experience and know how neighbors can really screw up a home sale and don’t even get me started on how parishioners from certain local churches know and tell.

Happy NNO.
