Lookers and lurkers

It was a beautiful weekend and the weather brought out the house hunters. I got to one appointment early on Saturday and waited in my car as people went around the block so that they could drive by the house that is for sale again. People would slow down as they went by and two other couples were there to see the house at the same time I was there with my clients.

At other home there was a woman sitting outside in her car. She was approaching Realtors who were showing the home to their clients and asking to be let in for a look. It has happened to me before when I am showing a house and someone else tries to come in for a look. I won’t show a house to someone I don’t know who is waiting out front. I gave her my card and she was still sitting in her car in front of the home when we left. [see real estate emergencies]

Sometimes people knock on the door of homes that are for sale and ask to come inside for a look. If your home is for sale it is your call but I would be inclined to say no if it were my home. I know from experience that there are all kinds of people who like to look inside of other peoples houses who are not qualified buyers.

If you are serious about buying a home make sure that you have met with a lender and are qualified to borrow money or pay cash. Enlist the help of a Realtor before touring houses. Plan on having to plan ahead and make appointments to see homes for sale.
