Got Heat?

SnowMother nature played a cruel joke on us this year.  We went from summer to Winter in one day, and then got our first snow a month early, and are already on our second snow storm.

That got me thinking about the twenty year old furnace in the basement. Like most home owners the only time I think about the furnace is when it is cold out, the thing is fairly useless the rest of the time.

At the risk of making this sound like an advertisement this might be one of the better times to buy a new furnace.  There are some tax credits available for buying a new energy efficient furnace for your primary residence.  Up to $1500, and there are some rebates being offered by various companies and some discounts on installation that I suspect are available because business is kind of slow for people who install furnaces.

I crunched some numbers and I think I can get a new furnace for about half of what it would have cost a year ago. A more energy efficient furnace would also save a few bucks a month on heating costs.
