Downtown lunds – peoples groundbreaking

The ground breaking for the new Lunds store and Penfield apartments   in downtown St. Paul will take place on Monday but there is a special groundbreaking for those who live in the area and who might not want to take time off of work for Mondays groundbreaking.

This is a very big deal for anyone who live in or near downtown St. Paul and something that we have all been wanting for a long time.  We really need a grocery store.  I live just outside of downtown and we don’t have anything like a Lunds store in the area.  All I can say it it is about darn time and I’ll see you tomorrow morning at the peoples groundbreaking. . . no people will be hurt I am sure.  I imagine that the reason they don’t mention that the project will be located on  10th and Minnesota street is because if you live in the area you already know that.

For those who don’t remember just before the housing market crashed and made that sickening thud the Penfield was going to be a tall building with luxury condos in it.  The project has been scaled back and got final approval for funding from the City council in february 2012 and will be a 254-unit luxury apartment building at 10th and Minnesota streets in downtown St. Paul. . .and a Lunds store. :)

When I see Dave Thune I’ll aks him what’s up with the Pedro’s park.  I don’t see Pedro’s on the site anymore and I wouldn’t call a vacant lot with a chain link  fence around it a park.  Perhaps residents of the Rossmor, located across the street could be permitted to garden on the site?
