Only 27 days . . .

Only 27 days until the Nice Ride bikes start showing up on the street of St. Paul.

I really miss my bike and can not wait to hit the trails.

The Twin Cities nonprofit Transit for Livable Communities biking and walking are on the rise in the twin cities.  Biking has increased by 50% in the last five years and walking by 20%.  [see MPR news story

Nice Ride – Bikes for rent

Nice Ride

Nice ride started last year in Minneapolis.  In June they started installing Nice Rice Kiosks in St. Paul.  This one is on Sherburne Avenue near University Avenue just outside of Checkers pizza.  The bikes can be rented by the hour and the first 30 minutes are free . . kind of.   The details and pricing can be found on the Nice Ride MN web site.

I talked to some people who have used the bikes.  They are easy to adjust and the kiosk accepts credit cards. There are going to be maps at each station soon and of course more stations.  The bikes are pretty heavy duty which is probably a good thing.

No one has asked me if the bikes will cause property values to rise but I will go out on a limb and say they can’t hurt.
