The View

This is my last Instagram photo for the week.  I took it on Monday from the window at CoCoMSP on 4th street.   I’ll admit sometimes I sit at the window and watch the work being done on the Union Depot across the street.

CoCoMSP is a co-working collaborative.  It is kind of like a coffee shop for the self employed.  A place to go and work and work with others and sometimes even collaborate on something. It is a great place to go for a change of pace.

If I look down from that same window I see the coppery roofs of the LRT station.

Two sets of tracks and they are even kind of curvy.

Out the windwo looking at the union depot

I took this out the window at CoCoMSP in lowertown.  The union depot is looking good and I like the pretty copper roof on the light rail station. It is indeed a work of art at least as far as light rail stations go.

LRT construction update Sunday Edition

Here are a couple of pictures I took in downtown St. Paul of the light rail construction.

I wasn’t the only one who was watching.  Construction is a spectators sport.

It seems like 4th street in front of the union depot ha been under construction forever but forever is a long time.

Light Rail Update

The street improvements appear to be done on 4th street E. in lower town from the farmers to the union depot.  The street has been open to traffic in both directions since last year and the rail has been laid.  They are still working on the station and on the union depot.  I can’t wait to see the depot when it is done.

Cedar and 4th street

It has been awhile since I have provided a central corridor light rail transit construction update.  There are various projects closing streets in downtown St. Paul the biggest is the light rail central corridor project.  The rail will run along 4th street.  The is what Cedar street at 4th looks like now, from one of the skyways.

I took this one from the skyway out of Dayton’s.  Yes I know there isn’t such a store but those of us who have lived in St. Paul forever it is still hard to call Dayton’s Macy’s.  You can see the a grey spot in the distance that is the State capitol building.

If all goes well we will be able to take the rail from downtown St. Paul to downtown Minneapolis and beyond in 2014.  Personally I am excited about the project, maybe because I worked for Metro Transit for almost a decade and have an interest in mass transit.

What LRT will look like

I try to take pictures of light rail construction on a regular basis.  Here are some photographs of completed light rail in downtown Minneapolis.  It will be well worth the road construction and the mess.  Have you ever ridden the light rail?  Easy to do and not very expensive.  A single ticket is good for two hours which makes it possible to go to and from a destination on one ticket.  The trains are fast and clean and there are bike racks on board and at the stations.
