March, almost like spring

March is a magical month. Sometimes we even get some warm weather. We do get longer days and shorter nights and it is often warm enough to go outside. April used to be the month with the highest number of home sales. People buy houses in March and close on them in April.

April is still a big month for home sales but home sales are not as seasonal as they used to be. However, most people in this part of the country avoid moving in winter.

We can look forward to daylight savings time starting on March 13th and the first day of spring on the 20th and of course St. Patrick’s day on March 17th. Maybe we will get a few more feet of snow or maybe not. From the end of March through most of April we can experience two or three seasons.

Spring Beauties
Spring Beauties

These are among the earliest flowers I see in the metro area in the spring. The earliest I have ever seen them has been during the last week of March. Last year I couldn’t find them at all. I’ll go hunting for them when the snow melts. They bloom in the woods before the trees get leaves and I have found them in Battle Creek Regional Park and in Lilydale Regional Park.

Happy March!
