  1. Hi,

I found your blog from next blog button.

I love your pics, especially this church. I am fascinated by the stained glass windows in most churches and the way the light penetrates the vivid colours. I shall post some of my church pics once I’ve repaired my scanner driver, which broke during the microsoft updating process.

  2. Thanks Coral. This church is gorgeous inside. it is hard to get pictures of stained glass windows, but I might just have to give it a try.

  3. The first service was held in Hamline Methodist Church at 1514 Englewood in September 1880, ten days before the start of classes at Hamline University. The church must have been finished in the late summer of 1880. The pictures are great!

  4. Thanks! I could not find info on it. I was suprised. It is a beautiful church.

Actually, the present Hamline United Methodist Church was built in 1928. The 1880 services noted by Louise Speck were held in the assembly hall (now known as Bridgman Hall) of Hamline University’s original University Hall (the first Old Main – it burned in 1883). The first Hamline Methodist church was built in 1900 but, in 1925, that building also burned. The present church was built in 1928.

Anyone interested in the history of the church can find much more information in “Casting Long Shadows: 125 Years at Hamline United Methodist Church,” Mary Bakeman, editor, 2006.
