Is the pandemic over?

Last year we experienced a few months of pandemic-free life.  We took off our masks and went out to eat because when we dine out we help low-wage workers and wealthy business owners. We spread Covid-19 like crazy but called it Delta and then Omicron. The last surge was the worst yet.

People are tired of the virus and infection rates are going down, just like they did last year. People are going out and shopping and dining out and many are not wearing masks. The people who work in the stores are not wearing masks anymore either.

We know we can get Covid-19 even if we are twice vaxed and boosted and even if we had it before. Sure it will be a milder case that is more survivable but we may spread the virus which will continue to mutate. We don’t know what kind of damage even a mild case of Covid will do to our bodies.

Infections are surging in some parts of the world. Each surge has been worse than the last which makes me wonder what life will be like next winter.

We may be done with Sars Cov 2 but I don’t think it is done with us yet. In the UK the mask mandates were dropped a few weeks ago after the number of infections dropped. They are now facing a surge.

Is the pandemic over? No, it is not over and it isn’t bad for the economy to point that out. The virus is bad for the economy and for human life on the planet. We should do whatever it takes to vanquish it. Covid-19 infections can result in medical bills that will lead to bankruptcy and foreclosure.
