Yesterday's Red Bull Flugtag on Harriet Island in St. Paul yesterday was record breaking. The people counters say that 80 to 90,000 people came and watched the event. I believe it. There were people as far as the eye could see and standing room only unless you brought your own chair. Spectators were on both sides of the river and I could see them on the decks of the science museum and on the nearby bridges.
The homemade flying machines crash quickly and spectacularly after they are launched off of a thirty foot ramp. The event was won by the team "Major Trouble and the Dirty Dixies" of Inver Grove Heights and their very nice replica-gilder, “Miss Mitchell,” piloted by Rachel Norman of Woodbury, setting a new world record of 207 feet! Impressive!
There were people as far as the eye could see. This is on the North side of the river. It was a good place to view Fligtag
Nice crash. You can see the people in the back ground on Harriet Island. If you look against the wall to the right in the photo you will see too lucky people that got to be in a place where they could get good photographs of the event.
For those who might be reading who play Four Square so many people checked in that we got a super swarm badge. Very hard to get in St. Paul Minnesota. 🙂
this is like a Destination Imagination for a handful of really smart people to participate and be looked at by whole bunch of other people who are wired in some way.
