Bike to nature

It is Friday and Fridays are for fun. I have been enjoying bike rides through Lilydale regional park.  Water Street which runs through the park is closed. Technically the trails are closed too because that is where the Mississippi River overflowed during the recent spring flooding.

Last weekend when I rode through I saw goldfinches, red-winged blackbirds, and bald eagles. I also saw ducks and geese and could hear the pileated wood peckers but did not see them.

I also saw some frogs and a turtle that must have been lost.  There were a variety of wildflowers. Some fleabane and wild strawberry, yellow goatsbeard, bloodroot, and dames rocket to name a few.

When the road opens again it won’t be as nice for bird watching because of the noise from cars and from groups of cyclists having loud conversations as they travel through the woods.

The best time to enjoy the park is in the early morning.
