Some folks go south for the winter and others end up with a vacant house for whatever reason.
If the house will be vacant have it winterized or do it yourself. Turn off the water, drain the pipes, or have a plumber do it.
Leave the heat on low. Enough heat to keep the moisture out. Maybe 45 to degrees. Some folks just turn the heat off. If the house is on the market leave the heat on at 50 to 60 degrees and make sure that everyone knows that the toilets and sinks can not be used.
Call your insurance company. If the house is vacant it might not have the same insurance coverage.
I have seen houses where the pipes have burst. It isn’t pretty. It doesn’t take a lot of water to destroy a house. If the pipes do freeze have a plumber thaw them out.
I write this every year.
