I’ll probably put up some holiday lights this week. Some will go on the front porch and I usually put a string of lights around the window in my office and a strand in the entryway to the kitchen.
I get asked this question every year. Homeowners who have their homes on the market during the holidays want to know if putting up holiday decorations is a good idea. The correct answer is . . it depends.
A wreath on the door and some holiday decorations inside can help sell your house because, to some, it will look more like home. . . but covering every square inch with your Santa bear collection, a couple of trees, holiday rugs, and pillows, snow globes, and ribbons isn’t going to help at all. I have seen homes with so many holiday decorations that they look like clutter.
Like any kind of clutter holiday decorations can be distracting. You really want home buyers to see the house and imagine it with their own stuff inside.
