Bang and boom, gunshot or fireworks?

It is Friday and Fridays are for fun. For the most part, we had some nice weather over the July 4th weekend.

If you belong to any of the neighborhood groups on Nextdoor or Facebook you will find neighbors discussing explosions and . . . did you hear gunshots? or is that fireworks?

We don’t have public fireworks or July 4th celebrations here in St. Paul and fireworks are illegal in Minnesota but the explosions were constant on July 4th. The law isn’t enforced, I am not sure that it can be. I don’t think people are even aware of the law.

Earlier in the day, we learned that July 4th parade-goers were shot to death while attending a July 4th parade in Illinois. Seven people were slaughtered and many others were injured.

In Minneapolis, there were simultaneous fireworks and gunshots on July 4th and a lot of pandemonium.

There were times on the 4th when I was playing “fireworks or gunshots ?” but I kept it to myself.

America is about freedom not about safety and that is what people celebrate on July 4th.

  1. I disagree that the law can’t be enforced! Myself and others have observed police not taking action after seeing boxes of fireworks out in the open and even being set off. I have created a petition asking them to enforce the laws. https://www.change.org/StopStPaulFireworks

There are not enough police officers. Goodluck! It is worth a try.
