The number of people without housing continues to rise

This is going to sound obvious to some but the number one cause of homelessness is the lack of affordable housing. We tend to want to blame and even punish people who don’t have enough money so that they can afford a place to live.

There are people camping in parks and near the entrance to the freeway and along the freeway. There are large encampments and campsites for one. There isn’t any water turned on in the parks, there aren’t even any trash cans and no privies.

If you live in the suburbs you might not see as many tents but there are people living in cars in parking lots and in small campers and vans. If you look you will see them.

It is important to understand that there are a lot of people who were not doing well financially even before the pandemic and things are likely to get much worse.
