Collecting stuff

Car1_2It is Friday and Fridays are for fun.  I will just bet that the owner of the car in the  picture is a fun kind of person.

It isn’t unusual for people to have hobbies.  Collecting stuff seems to be a hobby that many enjoy.   Stuff is maybe the wrong word but it is the only one that comes to mind. This car is covered with objects that people collected.  There are plates, and shot glasses and dolls on it that say Minnesota.  There is a mosaic of a Minnesota loon, china plates, and all types of  items that someone purchased for reasons that I don’t understand.

In this case the collection is not as unusual as the way it is displayed, or where it is displayed.  I kind of like it.   I never really understood having a collection.  At times I collect parking tickets on my car, an occupational hazard and business expense I associate with having listings in downtown Saint Paul.

I know people who collect beanie babies, or maybe they don’t any more.  I remember in the 80’s people would collect those little figurines, I can’t remember what they are called.  In my case I guess I am more into losing things and I can’t imagine having one more item in my home that needs to be dusted. Everything that is already in the house is dusty.

We let the antique chandelier  in the dining room collect dust until Halloween because it looks neat with cobwebs on if and then we dust it before thanksgiving so our guests don’t worry about dust falling on the turkey.  Everything else is dusty because we had to let the maid go, which was hard to do because we never had one.

I guess a dog, a cat a couple of kids and a house with a white picket fence, we really do have a house with a white picket fence, that needs paint, not the house the fence, is as much as I could ever handle.  I think the cat is dusty too.

Have a great weekend.  The stock market will be closed so not much can go wrong.  We have an impressive collection of homes on the market.  This might be a great time to buy one.  They come in handy for parking cars in front of, and are a great place to store collections.

  1. That is a great photo. I have seen a couple of cars like that here in Toronto, I think they are fun, but my wife doesn’t agree with me. Collecting is a nice release from the usual day to day stress, I collect sports memorabilia and write a blog about that, although it is kind of abandoned until hockey season starts. oh, well, just had to comment, That is a great photo.

Hello Teresa: I found out about you from Jim Cronin who mentioned your great personality and resulting success through blogging (not that you weren’t successful before–just that you were especially successful with blogging). I love your writing style. I made me think you would write a murder mystery well because you are so cleverly descriptive and fun in your observations. Put me in mind of Robert Barnard whose Death of a Perfect Mother made me want to real all his novels. At work (EWM in Miami we are just starting to blog and it makes me so happy that technology is bringing people back to reading and writing. I am sure I am not the first person to tell you you’re a natural writer.

  12. Being a native Minnesotan I find your blog very fun and interesting! Great picture, cars that have things all over them are so fun! I think I recall that is some kind of car collectible convention annually somewhere. Wouldn’t that be a blast?!
