Mobile apps on phones and tablets can really help with the house hunt. Grap the Realtor.com app and find homes for sale in your immediate vicinity. It works on Androids, iPhones, Ipads and various other electronic devices.
There are other apps that do the same thing but the Realtor.com app has the most local listings because it it getting the listings through Realtor.com which is getting them from feeds directly from the MLS. That means you will find most of the homes for sale at least the homes listed by Realtors.
Try the WalkScore app on your mobile device to find out how walkable any neighborhood is. The app is location base but you can also use it from a computer and type in an address. Being in a walkable neighborhood is important to some home buyers. See “Walkscore”
If you are interested in the demographics of an area try using Sitegeist and see the average age, income levels and household makeup.

One of my favorite apps is wikihood because I can learn about the historic buildings and homes in the immediate area. There is information about neighborhoods, individual homes that are historically significant and landmarks and public buildings. Probably not as much fun in the burbs but put it on your phone and fire it up the next time you are downtown or on Grand avenue.
Search the Apple store or Google play. The apps are usually in the “life style” section. I have used and tested many real estate related apps over the years but these are the ones that I actually use. As a Realtor I get to use a mobile version of our MLS and I used a couple of mortgage calculators. My phone also opens lock boxes using an app and a device that converts blue tooth to infrared.
