The First Day of Summer

I guess no one had to read my blog to get the news.  It is even starting to feel like summer.  Have not turned on the air conditioner yet.  I like the sounds that come in through the open windows.  People walking by, birds singing, boat horns, church bells and even the traffic on the bridge.  I miss those sounds in the winter.

When the kids were little we had a fun tradition for the first day of summer.  I used to let them stay out side until it was dark.  Dark was defined as when the street lights come on, which is after sunset.  They used to love it.   It is the longest day of the year and that was our way of celebrating the occasion.  When they were a bit older I would bring out the tents and let them have a sleep over.  The kids would camp out in the yard  . . and drive me nuts, but they had so much fun.

One of the things I like the most about summer is gardening and seeing my neighbors.  The two are related.  I go out and weed and they come and talk.  We have some really great conversations in the alley too.  Some times what starts out as two people not doing yard work ends up to be a group of us discussing the news of the day or maybe just talking about what is going on the the neighborhood.  Alleys get a bad rap that they don't deserve.

There are so many places to go and things to do during the summer. I just wish it was a few months longer so that I could fit it all in.

Have a great day and take some time to smell the roses.  They won't last forever and neither will the summer.

Must be nice to be in a northern state right now. Here in Austin we have already had 15 days over 100 degrees and summer is just starting!

    Teresa,

I couldn't agree with you more. I love this time of year, and wish we could ALL slow down a little and really enjoy it. Having visited your lovely area last summer, I know it is a beautiful part of the country. Have a GREAT summer.

I love summer time and I agree with you Teresa even though it's kinda hot here in Utah, I still love the summer time.
