Get lost
It is Friday and already August. It doesn't matter which month it is Friday's are for fun on the St. Paul Real Estate Blog. Earlier in the week I indicated that it is more fun to post charts and graphs than flowers. I just made that up so I would have an excuse for publishing some hard data, so that I could be spammed into oblivion by mortgage companies. I really wanted to post pictures of flowers.
Some people take vacations in August. I usually wait until September, besides since the end of June I have traveled to seven states, and have gotten lost in 4 or 5 of them. I have a GPS in my car and it seems to work fine, except for when I am in tunnels or surrounded by tall buildings or not paying attention. Recently I have gotten lost driving in downtown Chicago, in St. Joseph Missouri, and in Southern Minnesota. I get lost while I am walking too.
I got lost walking, at least once a day in California and actually managed to get lost walking in Illinois and in Wisconsin on the same day. I rarely get messed up in Iowa, well just that one time when I tried to find the dirt road that would get me closer to the wind farm so I could take pictures. If you saw a wind farm wouldn't you try to get closer and take pictures?
I don't have to travel to get lost. Sometimes I simply forget where I am going and end up some place else. What really cracks me up is when people ask me for directions. I managed to get a couple of friends from New York lost for at least an hour. Anyone who needs to rely on my directions is in serious trouble. Last night I gave my daughter directions for Canal Park in Duluth Minnesota, I wonder if I will ever see her again.
While I was in San Fransisco last week I had to ask for directions a few times, well more than once a day, OK every time I went some place. It worked out well because I would walk down the street past the hotel doormen and they gave me directions. By the third day they would just point as I walked by because they knew what I was going to ask. For people like me who are directionally challenged being able to find a place on one day is no guarantee of being able to find it the next.
My husband doesn't understand why I need directions and then a new set of directions on how to get home. He keeps saying to get home just reverse the directions. Yeah right like that ever works, I am convinced that he is trying to trick me. I guess that is why I got the GPS. It never argues with me and just keeps giving me directions. If I don't follow the directions it asks me to "make a complete u turn when it is safe to do so", or it gives me new directions.
I want to make an important distinction here. There is a big difference between being directional challenged and having no direction. I have a direction and always know exactly where I want to go. I get there eventually and am often on time.
Have a great weekend. If you decide to go to an open house you can find directions and maps on my web site.

LOL! I got lost every time I left the hotel on foot in San Francisco also. Glad to hear that I am not the only one. Everyone I asked for directions sent me in another direction. I learned that if you hailed a cab and just said, "The Palace Hotel Please" that I could find my way back.

Laurie - I got in trouble my first night there. I arrived at about 10:00 PM and decided to take a walk. It took me some time to find my way back to my own hotel. :)
