It is Martin Luther King day today and the public schools and government offices are closed. Parking meters are free in both downtown Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul and there will be no snail mail delivery.
I like those days when I know that no pesky bills will arrive. Here are a couple of paragraphs from Martin Luther King’s most famous speach:
“I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”
Here is a brief history of Martin Luther King JR and the text from his famous speech given in 1963.
It is also inaugeration day. President Obama will be sworn in for his second term. It will be the second time that this federal holiday has coincided with a presidential inauguration. The first was President Bill Clinton’s second inauguration on Monday, Jan. 20, 1997.
