Maybe you have seen this banner around town. It is part of the cities program to help prevent foreclosures. Public works vehicles will soon have this information on them. They are trying to get the word out. They are also training city employees to recognize when home owners are in trouble and giving them brochures they can leave with home owners.
Saint Paul Mortgage Foreclosure Program
The Saint Paul Mortgage Foreclosure Prevention Program is administered by the City's Home Loan Fund certified HUD housing counselors.
For Saint Paul homeowners facing foreclosure, housing counselors will:
* Provide education about the foreclosure process and legal time-lines
* Provide financial and budget counseling services
* Work with the lender of the homeowner and evaluate possible foreclosure solutions
* Make referrals to community resources
* Provide one-time loans to cure default (available on a case-by-case basis)
Saint Paul Home Loan Fund Programs
In addition to the Mortgage Foreclosure Program, the CityLiving Home Loan Fundprovides affordable financing for first-time home buyers including:
* Special assistance loans for down payment and closing costs
* Low-cost home improvement programs
The link is to the Cities web sitewith more information about the program. There are a few more things the city could do. They could have more information about the program on their web site. They could make a comprehensive page with all the resources and information. There are councilors who will be working through the neighborhood district councils and meeting times have been set. The best advice I can offer on that is to check with your district council office.
