Is it Time for a Vacation? I ask myself that question everyday, but only really think about it on Friday’s becasue Friday’s are for fun and so are vacations.
It is a bit complicated for those of us who are self employed to go on a vacation. I have a friend who helps out but there are still real estate emergencies that require my attention. I could write an entire post on what a real estate emergency is but I don’t want to frighten anyone.
With the price of gasoline at $4.00 a gallon and the rising cost of airfare and just about everything else I am wondering if travel is really worth it, yet I do need a vacation. I started doing a little research on the internet. I have concluded that people can now takes vacations without ever leaving home.
There are some mighty interesting virtual museums out there. Kind of gives me that vacation feeling. Some of the web sites even feel like tourist traps.
Here are my top picks, I tried to find something for everyone but since I don’t know everyone personally, it is safe to assume that I missed the mark.
For the geek in your life we have the Old Calculator Museum. Apparently they stopped making old calculators so the makers of this site have not bothered updating it for many years.
This one kind of appeals to me, maybe because I see so many furnaces but there is a museum of furnace stickers. Honest I am not making this up: Furnace Stickers
If world travel is what you had in mind for a vacation there is the lawnmower museum of the UK. I know a lot of guys who can appreciate a nice lawn mower. I see the way they look at them when they are at Sears, even if they are with their wife.
The kids might like this one, the virtual museum of wooden nickles. You might have to educate them on the whole wooded nickel thing, I know my parents taught me to not accept them as payment for anything.
If your idea of fun is something educational for the kids I found a web site for that too. There is a virtual museum of virtual museum tours. The kids can enjoy art, or sciences or what ever else they are supposed to learn about. I just know they all enjoy art. Have them visit the Virtual Tours of Musems, Exhibits and Points of Special Interest while you pour yourself a drink and sit back and watch.
This one brings back memories there is an office museum with vintage photos from the 1930′s and 40′s, of course I was born long after the photos were taken but when I look at them they reminded me of the offices of a government agency that I worked for in the 90′s. Somethings never change.
There are virtual museums out there that cover every interest I can think of. I didn’t find one that had sewing needle packages from the 20′s and 30′s so I might have to start my own,. A good project during the winter months when business is very slow.
Have a great weekend, don’t take any wooden nickels.
