Friday fun

The Magic Camera

by Teresa Boardman, on 09 May 2008

Last Friday I posted some photos that I took down by the river because Fridays are for fun.  Fridays  are also for work but I try not to think about that.

Someone who calls himself "The Man in the Red Shirt", like I am supposed to believe that his real name isn’t David Smith, saw the pictures and asked what kind of camera I use and asked if I use a tripod.  I have to admit I was inspired.   David is quite the photographer.  None of his pictures are blurry, he always remembers to take the lens cap off,  and he gets some really great shots   He is  the kind of person who would think to use a tripod.   It never occurred to me to use one and it took some time to figure out how to get the camera on the tripod.   My Kodak disposable camera’s don’t come with tripod instructions.

As always I used office supplies and it all worked out.  It is amazing the things that can be done using office supplies, which is why I carry paper clips in my car.  Now I have to learn how to use the tripod, it only has three legs, and honestly that doesn’t make a lot of sense to me right now but I am a fast learner.

That’s hilarious. I would love to see the look on my sellers faces if I set something up like that when taking shots of their home. :-)

Barry – never thought of taking interior shots with a tripod, thanks for the tip.

  3. Thanks for sharing your secrets! I’m off to buy a disposable camera and a bag of rubber bands!
    See ya,
    kk

Crap. I’m always learning stuff from you. I’ve been using my tripod all wrong :O

    Thanks for setting me straight.

Are those the regular or commercial strength rubber bands? And, if you don’t mind, how many times do you wrap it around ? Thanks.

I knew there was a secret I was missing. Thanks for sharing T.

  6. I can’t wait to see what you used to fire the shot. :)

KK – You might be able to tape it onto you monopad.

Kim – I buy them at office max, kind of skinny ones work best, wrapped twice. They get in front of the view finder so you have to kind of imagine the shot without a blurry line in front of it.

Linda – always happy to share, or maybe I should say spread it.

  8. Teresa Boardman says:

Chris – I took it with a disposable camera, I have several of them.

This is one of the funniest pictures I’ve ever seen.

I don’t think I’ll ever mount my camera on the tripod again without a smile coming to my face.

I might even start throwing a few rubber bands in my camera bag. : )

Thanks T I love the way you think and write.

wow! camera bag. I should try that too. Last night my camera fell out of my pocket and into the river. If it had been in a bag it would be here instead of somewhere in Minneapolis by now. Also consider keeping paper clips in your camera bag for an emergency. :)

The nice part about a tripod for taking home pics is you can capture some really nice evening shots (from outside) that can make a home look like a fantasy land.

Maybe not with your trusty disposable though.

  12. Oh sure! Now EVERYBODY knows your proprietary secrets!

  13. Teresa Boardman says:

OK every body, your comments are way funnier than my post. I am still laughing.

  14. OK, I’m never leaving home without paper clips and rubber bands again. I think that camera is extremely functional – wrapping the rubber band around the viewfinder also helps to ensure that your photos are straight….I admire the ingenuity.

Ruthmarie – wow! I wish I had a prize to give. You are the only one the caught or commented on the rubber band across the view finder. :) I thought that was a nice touch but it kind of plopped. Thanks!

Is that waterproof? That’s a high class camera right there.
