The picture of Wabasha Street was taken from the southern river bluff, of the Mississippi, on a day when it was warm enough to leave my car for the picture.
Wabasha is a very old street, one of the origional 15 named in the 1849 plat. It was named in honor of three Dakota chiefs. The bridge that spans the river was dedicated on September 11th, 2002, as the "Wabasha Freedom Bridge" in honor of those who died on 911 at the world trade center in NYC.
St. Paul as a rich history and it is being made every day. There is a book called "The Street Where You Live" by Don Empson. Don used to be my neighbor, and has always had a passion for history. There are little stories behind the names of many of our streets.
