For the heck of it

Local Woman gets Coverage in the LA Times

by Teresa Boardman, on 09 February 2008

225tI was interviewed by Ann Brenoff of the LA times,  in January and am part of an article that will be published in tomorrows Sunday addition, that features real estate bloggers from around the country.  The article is  on their web site today.

My little blog has been mentioned before in newspapers including the Boston Globe and the Chicago Tribune. (The tribune archives their articles so I can’t link to it)  Quite an honor. In April there will be an article about the blog in a national magazine, and they tell me my face will be on the cover, an unexpected honor.

I have gotten some great opportunities because of this site.  It has become the corner stone of my real estate business.  It exists to help me meet the people who live inside my computer and are looking for help buying or selling a house.  It also helps market the properties that I list.  Having a web presence is essential for Realtors.

In April I will be speaking at our local Real estate  Expo put on by our local real estate boards.  In June I will be speaking at the Pennsylvania board of Realtors annual meeting.  My blog has taken me from San Fransisco, to New York and back home again and I have been enjoying the ride.

I started the St. Paul Real Estate Blog as an experiment a little over two years ago.  It has grown into multiple sites.  I enjoy doing it and it has helped my business immensely.  I now have close to 1000 entries and I am guessing close to 2000 pictures.

If I Google my name  I get 46,000 hits.  I don’t know how many of them are really me but as I flip through the pages I see links to my web sites and links to quotes and comments on other blogs.   I don’t have time to check all 46,000.  If I do a search for the properties I have listed they also come up in Google, after a few weeks on the market they come up number 1.  My web presence helps my clients and helps buyers find my listings, and I absolutely love working on my blog.

Buyers come from all over the country, I just couldn’t connect with as many through an open house or by sending mail, or spam.  The blog is much better than spam because the people who are looking for me find me but those who are not interested don’t have to delete me from their in box.  I have met people in the real estate industry from all over the country too.  It is hard to imagine but I have friends who live inside my computer.  Some have been able to help my clients find homes in other states and others have helped with this blog.

The picture was taken by a friend, Jeff Turner,  last summer when I attended the Inman connect conference in San Fransisco, and spoke on a couple of panels.  I was checking the messages on my blackberry, which is something that I do rather often.

Congrats Teresa. Though it’s not nearly as big a deal, you were also recently mentioned in The Mortgage Press, in an article about blogging. It’s linked to my name.

  3. It sounds to me like you are wearing yourself out working too hard. Perhaps it’s time to hit the “delete” button.

  6. I just wanted to say congrats on all your success. I look forward to your posts, and I’ve learned so much about real estate blogging from you. In fact, your site was the reason I decided to blog!

Congratulations on the well-deserved recognition, Ms. Boardman — you and your blog are both interesting and helpful, and you’re also an awfully good sport about opening the floor to us skeptics, as well. Many happy returns to you –

  8. T- Great news! I would love to have an excuse like that to get out of the state every now and then, but alas, I am a mommie. I too started my blogging as an experiment, and while it isn’t as great as a success as you, I will keep chugging away and hope it can get better. Thanks for the inspiration. :)
