As a follow up from one of yesterday’s posts here is another resource for people that are having trouble making their house payments: 1-888-995-Hope.
They have a web site too: http://www.995hope.org/   They provide counseling, and encourage home owners who are struggling to call as soon as possible. The sooner the call, the more options the owner has.

Counseling Overview  

The counselors for the 888-995-HOPE hotline are provided by five leading HUD-approved nonprofit allies – Auriton Solutions, Consumer Credit Counseling Services of Atlanta, Consumer Credit Counseling Services of San Francisco, Novadebt, and Springboard Nonprofit Consumer Credit Management.

For those who are not going through foreclosure but are cold, and it will get colder this week, here is a recipe for Hot Buttered Run:

1 stick unsalted butter, softened
2 cups light brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
Pinch ground cloves
Pinch salt
Bottle dark rum
Boiling water

In a bowl, cream together the butter, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Refrigerate until almost firm. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the butter mixture into 12 small mugs. Pour about 3 ounces of rum into each mug (filling about halfway). Top with boiling water (to fill the remaining half), stir well, and serve immediately.
