You guessed, it is Friday and Friday’s are for fun. I think I kind of had fun on Thursday when I couldn’t figure out what to write so I wrote about not having anything to write and amazingly people read it and even commented on it. Much appreciated.
I have been called a geek a couple of times during the past few weeks. I have no idea why and I am not even sure what a geek is. I know that nerds are about star trek and pocket protectors, so I am sure I am not a nerd. Besides I don’t think I have any shirts with pockets for a pocket protector so I couldn’t be a nerd even if I wanted to be.
Most of the definitions for the word Geek include words like odd, peculiar and smart. I don’t think any of those words are a good fit except for maybe "odd" and I guess smart would fit but only if a short three letter word follows it.
I found this definition of geek on the wise geek web site: "Today, the word generally has a more positive connotation, used to refer to someone who has a great deal of specialized knowledge in a "geeky" field, such as technology or science." I was relieved to hear that the word has a positive connotation.
Real estate isn’t considered a technical field by most, but my last job was in a technical field. I guess I kind of brought the ideas and the technology with me. I worked mostly with geeks, and some nerds too.
I will accept the geek title for now and only ask that if you call me a geek please add the word goddess after it.
Have a great weekend and stay warm.

I think that definition is a little too specific. Here is how I would define it “Today, the word generally has a more positive connotation, used to refer to someone who gets really into an area of specialized knowledge”. I don’t think geeks have to be tech or science people, they can also be movies, comic books, and people who get way involved in their profession are definitely geeky.
Josh – I never thought of it that way but you do have a point. As a mind set “geekiness” does not have to be limited to technology.
I only know my husband is a geek and NOT a nerd! He tells me that ALL the time. Geeks are voraciously curious and want to learn everything they can. For example he is a huge technical/computer geek BUT also a photographer geek http://blog.g33kart.com/ AND from Minnesota so I think you have DEFINITE geek tendencies!
As long as you throw in photography then I want to be a geek.
Just stopping by to pay homage to the Geek Goddess.
Homage noted.
I’m a guy who people in my office go to for tech help. I’m a geek, but what that terms actually means as it applies to me is someone with knowledge. Other people in the office called geeks are usually being called that to poke fun. I don’t see the term as negative any more.
