I love South St. Paul!

by Teresa Boardman, on 06 October 2006

Ssp I feel like I have been neglecting South St. Paul.  Why would I make such a statement?  Because I have clients and friends in South St. Paul, and it took me until today to write a post about the town.  Just like St. Paul, South St. Paul gets lumped in with the rest and is part of the twin cities or worse yes as the news media says "Minneapolis/St.Paul".   It is a seperate city with it’s own mayor, fire and police departments.

The very first home I ever listed was in South St. Paul and I list homes there every year.  Right now I have a wonderfull home on the market at 105 18th avenue North.  Two of the homes I have listed this year were being sold by origional owners who lived in their homes for more than 40 years.  Not at all unusual for South St. Paul.

South St. Paul is often over looked and misunderstood by local home buyers.   The people that live there would rather not leave and when they need a bigger home they look around town.  Like St. Paul, South St. Paul is a River town.  Home buyers will find a range of older historic homes, ramblers and newer split levels.  Homes are selling faster in South St. Paul than they are in St. Paul by about 30 days.  Like the rest of the metro area the inventory of homes on the market has risen, with 137 units on the market right now, which is almost twice as many as last October.

South St. Paul has just under 20,000 residents, and is only four miles from downtown St. Paul.  Resturants and shopping are close by on Robert Street in West St. Paul.  For home shoppers looking that are not familiar with the area, drive around and have a look. Here are some links to  more information about the city:

South St. Paul Schools – a great school system.

They even have an airport and as of today their very own category on my blog.

This would not be complete with out mentioning that South St. Paul’s biggest industry used to be meat.  Stock yards and meat packing plants.  Some of the industry remains, the High School sports teams are the Packers.  Go Packers!

Just for the record, it’s not necessarily a bad thing to be lumped in with Minneapolis! :-)
